Pakistan Team News
Pakistan has recalled batsman Babar Azam and allrounder Imad Wasim into their 15-man T20I squad as both these players have recovered from their respective injuries. Mohammad Hafeez has returned to the side and he is likely to open the batting with Fakhar Zaman. The hosts have also included uncapped pace bowler Waqas Maqsood owing to his impressive performances at the domestic level while leaving out Haris Sohail and an out-of-rhythm Mohammad Amir.
The opening pair of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman hold the key to Pakistan’s batting. Babar, who scored 99 in the second innings of the Abu Dhabi test, cracked a half-century in the last game. Fakhar is currently second in the ICC T20I batting rankings and has a strike-rate of close to 143 in this format. Apart from these two, the hosts will also expect healthy contributions from Mohammad Hafeez and Asif Ali. When it comes to bowling, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim are going to be the main threats for Australia. Imad spun Pakistan to victory in the first T20I with a three-wicket haul and the left-arm spinner is likely to give the Aussie batsmen a hard time at Dubai as well. Shadab is the world’s second-best T20 bowler at the moment and he too will be lethal on this spin-friendly surface.
Australia Team news
Explosive batsman Chris Lynn has recovered from his shoulder injury and he has been named in Australia’s 15-man T20I squad. Aaron Finch will be leading the team for this T20 international series and he will probably open the batting alongside D’Arcy Short with Lynn coming in at number three. Fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile and off-spinner Nathan Lyon are two other players to make a comeback into this Australian T20 side. Uncapped batsman Ben McDermott who had an impressive JLT One-Day Cup has also earned a call-up and is likely to make his debut on Wednesday.
Australia will have to come up with a much better batting display in the second T20I and for that, they will need sizeable contributions from their top order. Aaron Finch is among Australia’s best batsmen in the shortest format. The skipper failed to get off the mark last time and he will look to bounce back with a good performance here. Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell are both match-winners and the Aussies will be hoping for these two to fire on all cylinders. With the ball, the visitors will bank on the pace of Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye. Both snared three wickets apiece in the last game while conceding not many runs and the duo will be backed by their team to replicate that performance on Friday. Adam Zampa is their best option from the spin department and it will be up to him to apply pressure on Pakistan in the middle overs.
The slow pace of the pitch combined with the perennial dry and scorching heat in Dubai has historically worked for Pakistan.
But after the close first Test match last week that went down to the wire and ended in a draw, Australia will be emboldened to go for the win.
Australia will win the toss.
Pakistan will win the match.
